Te Papa in Wellington will be the setting for a unique event showcasing Matariki to visiting international media, which will reach well over 10 million people in some of New Zealand’s key tourism markets.Tourism New Zealand, as part of its International Media Programme, has arranged for some of the biggest names in Japanese, Taiwanese, Australian and German media to attend the pre dawn ceremony on June 27th.   • Snow continues to bucket down at Mt. Hutt – NZ
    Weekly New Zealand Travel News 3-- Another snow storm has covered Mt. Hutt Ski Resort on the South Island of New Zealand, also reaching the township below of Methven. Over 35cms fell overnight bringing the early season snowfall to 165cm since the resorts opening on 12 June. Mt. Hutt has an average snow base of 120cm on both the upper and lower slopes. The heavy snowfalls have mountain staff frantically trying to clear access roads and conduct avalanche control to allow skiers and boarders to enjoy the epic conditions. Methven is an easy hour’s drive from Christchurch International Airport.     Weekly New Zealand Travel News 5-- Visitors from New Zealand and Australia may be prevented from making pilgrimages to the graves of relatives who died at the Somme, thanks to unprecedented security for the battle's 90th anniversary. Thousands of people from around the world are expected to visit the battlefield in northern France to commemorate the start of the five-month battle on July 1, 1916. But French authorities say that a huge ceremonial zone will be set up around the VIP events, making it impossible for many to reach the graves of their relatives or the places where they fell.   • Marching band hopes School Board will OK trip to China
    Weekly New Zealand Travel News 6-- If the Collier County School Board approves a request for a March band trip today, Barron Collier High School band members will learn more than only scales and new music during practice. They’ll brush up on their Chinese. The band has requested that the School Board approve a trip to Beijing. If approved, students would have an opportunity to perform in the 2007 American Celebration of Music in China, said Kelly Parker, BCHS band director. “The way I look at it is like this: The marriage of the East and West is going to happen with or without our approval,” Parker said. Students would leave for China on March 30 and return April 9. The trip falls during spring break, meaning students would only miss two days of school, Parker said. Students would perform on the Great Wall of China, at two Chinese conservatories and right outside Tiananmen Square. More about.....
